Rescue Co. 3 is one of five elite Rescue Companies in the New York City Fire Department. Rescue Co. 3 differs greatly in one major aspect. We are the city wide, five borough COLLAPSE RESCUE.

Our Second apparatus, the Structural Collapse Utility Truck (SCUT), also known as Rescue Collapse 1, is a 1995 Super Vac trailer pulled by a GMC tractor. This apparatus commonly described as "Home Depot on wheels," responds on any reported "collapse" within the City of New York.

Rescue Co. 3 and the Collapse Unit are assigned to respond to a F.D.N.Y radio signal 10-60 indicating a reported building, building facade, partial building, or scaffold collapse. The signal 10-60 is also transmitted for a Major Emergency Response such as an Airplane Crash, Train Derailment or similar emergency with the potential for multiple casualties.

An Incident Commander may special call Rescue Co. 3 and the Collapse Unit to any incident that he deems our services may be advantageous. Rescue co. 3 will respond to the reported incident with both our Rescue apparatus and the Collapse apparatus.

Rescue Co. 3 and the Collapse Unit have responded to mutual aid to the Cities of Mount Vernon, New York and Jersey City & Hoboken, New Jersey.
